Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does BP2020 differ from earlier releases?
BalancePoint 2020 has a streamlined workflow to make simple balancing easier. A simplified Template screen with a new Weighing Sequence Template allows the parts to be kitted to be weighed in a particular order - for example each blade type (normal, locking, etc) may be weighed as a group if desired. A new database structure allows local Blade Types in each Assembly Template rather than global. Graphics have been improved and the Users' Guide has been totally revised. Support for tip/root scales has been increased.
2. Will BalancePoint work with my existing electronic scale?
BalancePoint can interface directly to scales with RS-232 or USB outputs. This allows blade weight data to be recorded quickly and efficiently without the possibility of paper-and-pencil errors. Data can be printed directly to logbook sheets with the User's logo. The User can observe the blade distribution pattern from a Polar Map and copy the Results output to an Excel spreadsheet. All results are saved for future reference. BalancePoint can be fitted to Turbine Metrology's moment weight scales, as well as those from Advance, Schenck and Hofmann.
3. Can BalancePoint accommodate special blade types?
BalancePoint can accommodate locking blades, cutter tooth blades, pairs, or any other special blade type defined by the User. These Blade Types are stored with the individual Assembly Template. The software can also be used to predict optimized placement of blade accessories such as cover plates, nuts, washers, or other elements.
4. Can BalancePoint compensate for initial rotor unbalance?
BalancePoint can arrange blades to compensate for initial rotor unbalance, if available. This capability minimizes the installation of balance weights or machining processes prior to blade installation.
5. Can BalancePoint accommodate blade pairs?
For jet engines like the Pratt & Whitney JT9 in which fan blades are paired, BalancePoint can work with either pre-paired blades or determine optimum pairs before arranging the blades.
6. Can BalancePoint arrange fixed patterns?
Although fixed patterns (eg: 2 segment alternating decreasing, etc) are usually do not yield the optimum balancing, BalancePoint makes these available.
7. Can BalancePoint print labels?
In addition to printing Blade Maps and Results Tables, BalancePoint 2017 can print labels for blade kits, eliminating the problem of unreadable handwritting numbering. Labels can feature the Customer's logo.
8. What operating system does BalancePoint use?
BalancePoint runs on Windows XP/Vista/7/10 operating systems with minimum hardware requirements.
